Dr. Dendy Engelman is a dermatologist and Mohs surgeon with a successful practice at the Shafter Clinic Fifth Avenue in New York City. Her focus is on total body skin health, skin care, skin cancer, and aesthetic medicine—including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, a vast array of laser/light-based/energy-based treatments, body contouring, leg treatments, and more. Her office is 7 floors, and incorporates 5 operating suites and 2 floors of laser and body treatment devices. “I jokingly call it the Taj Mahal of Beauty,” says Dr. Engelman.
When she’s not in her amazing office attending to patients, she’s also an advisor to Medik8, a science-led, clinically-backed skincare brand from the UK. It is best known for its smart formulations and hero products, including its Crystal Retinal collection, peptides, and Vitamin C. She’s also a busy mom of two (her son Gadsden is 8 and daughter Ellis is 6).
We asked Dr. Engelman to share more about why she chose to partner with Medik8, how it’s different from anything else she’s tried, and why every other busy mom should know about it, too.

Tell us about your own skincare routine, as a busy working mom who knows all about this world.
As we all are, I feel like I’m frequently pulled in a zillion different directions. So, there are days when I do an extensive self-care routine and nights when I can barely muster the energy to wash my face and brush my teeth. That said, at a bare minimum, I try to stick to a good cleansing routine, topical antioxidant, moisturizer, and SPF in the morning and cleanse, retinol, moisturizer, and eye cream at night.
Love that – keep it simple. As we head into Fall/Winter, how should we be adjusting our routine overall?
I like to lean in to anti-aging actives, such as vitamin A derivatives like retinol or retinal and exfoliating actives like AHAs. I also encourage my patients to go for an oil cleanser or a creamy cleanser and more emollient moisturizers in the drier months to combat the decrease in environmental humidity levels.
If someone is just trying Medik8 for the first time, what would you recommend specifically?
As someone who is just starting with skincare or wants to keep it simple, I recommend a cleanser, an antioxidant, a moisturizer, sunscreen, and a retinoid every day. From Medik8’s product line, I would recommend using the Total Moisture Daily Facial Cream to boost the skin barrier and plump the skin. It is clinically proven to deliver 100 hours of hydration and provides immediate skin barrier support. For a retinoid, I would recommend using a retinal strength suitable to your skin type from the brand’s hero Crystal Retinal collection. Designed to work in a ladder system where you can progressively move up, the formula contains Retinaldehyde, a next-generation vitamin A, which works 11x faster than standard retinol.
And for those of us who are already skincare junkies, what are the hero products or next-level products from Medik8 we shouldn’t sleep on?
For skincare lovers, I recommend the Oxy-R Peptides because the brand has an incredibly unique encapsulation system that allows the skin to absorb the 1% concentration of Oxyresveratrol, which is a typically unstable ingredient.
What truly sets Medik8 apart from the other lines out there?
What sets Medik8 apart from other competitors is that they bottle never-before-bottled formulations packed with clinically proven actives. For example, their retinal is set apart from competitors because it is formulated with a gentle, yet potent retinal, that helps you achieve professional-grade anti-aging results sooner. It has also been developed with the brand’s unique crystal encapsulation technology, which keeps the product on the very last drop. Medik8 is also known for its peptide portfolio including its Oxy-R Peptides, which encapsulate a previously unattainable concentration of 1% oxyresveratrol that visibly brightens, evens skin tone, and minimizes dark spots and acne scarring.
