We are big fans of Cinco de Mayo—the tacos, the margaritas…what’s not to love? And one day of eating and drinking like you still have your pre-kids, college-age metabolism (sigh…) won’t derail your health and wellness goals (in fact, research has proven “cheat” days are important!) But if you’re looking for some healthy tweaks to your Cinco de Mayo menu, here are three easy ones to try.

Make a Great Mocktail

The key to a fabulous mocktail is high quality ingredients—so splurge on fresh juice, agave syrup or freshly made simple syrup instead of sugar and use the “real” glasses. We also love the non-alcoholic, sugar-free Seedlip line of spirits. Here’s a quick recipe from the mixologist at Chulita in Venice, CA. For guests that are drinking alcohol, simply swap in some of the hard stuff.

“Seedlip Margarita”
This fresh margarita is available at Chulita in Venice, CA.

2 oz Seedlip Grove 42
1 tablespoon Agave syrup
1/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 oz Fresh Orange Juice
Garnish: Salt Rim & Lime Wedge

Combine ingredients with ice in a shaker & shake. Strain into an ice-filled rocks glass & garnish.

Serve Festive Food

These Turkey Taco Stuffed Peppers from our friend Melissa Hartwig at Whole 30 (read our interview with this amazing #momboss) is as bright and beautiful as it is delicious. Plus, it’s fast (and can even be made in the Instant Pot to be even faster) so it’s perfect for a quick dinner all year round.  But if you’re all about the traditional tacos on May 5? Chipotle is offering free delivery.

Bring the Heat

Recent research has shown that capsaicin, the ingredient that gives hot sauce and chili peppers their oomph, can provide health benefits from weight management to pain relief. We love the clean ingredient’s found in Siete products (including superfoods like avocado oil and turmeric!). Buy them (on sale now!) on Thrive Market.
