FAQs About This Camp

Who is taking care of my children at camp?
At Camp Pontiac, the personal relationship with our camp families begins at the top. The Etra Family, multi-generational owners since 1995, are deeply involved in the day-to-day lives and success of our campers. As parents (and grandparents!), we prioritize a safe, exciting, and nurturing environment. This commitment resonates throughout our staff: over 200 caring in-bunk counselors, and over 80 experienced adult professionals overseeing every facet of camp. We boast an exceptional health and wellness program, anchored by two on-site doctors (plus Ricky and Kenny) and ten nurses across two dedicated health centers, and our Camper Awareness Team and camp moms provide vital emotional support. Another program that sets us apart is our GOBS (Girls On Boys Side). These incredible female counselors dedicate their days and nights to our youngest boy campers, becoming cherished ‘big sisters’ and providing an unparalleled level of care and attention.
How do campers choose their activities?
Our program evolves with your child, ensuring that each summer brings fresh excitement and challenges. From elementary school, when campers explore a wide range of activities while still choosing approximately half their program, to middle school, during which they more acutely shape their experience by choosing over two-thirds of their daily schedule, and finally to our oldest three camper age groups who craft almost their entire daily program, we empower them to learn independence and decision-making. This unique approach encourages self-discovery and creates a sense of excitement for each stage of their camp journey.
What happens if my child gets sick or hurt at camp?
There is nothing more important than the health and safety of our campers. Owners Ricky and Kenny Etra are both board-certified physicians who set the standard for exceptional medical care. Our highly qualified medical team, comprised of two additional on-site doctors and ten nurses, is equipped to provide swift and effective treatment for our camp community’s medical needs. Recognizing that mental wellness is equally vital, our dedicated Camper Awareness Team (the “CAT”) proactively connects with families before camp to understand our campers’ individual needs. As the camp relationship is a year-round endeavor, throughout the summer, the CAT provides on-site support and emotional guidance for campers as well as staff. Together, our integrated health and wellness team creates a safe and nurturing environment where campers thrive.
