Camp Description

Imagine your child’s summer filled with laughter, adventure, and the kind of heartwarming community that feels like a second family, all nestled in the stunning White Mountains of New Hampshire. We understand that as a mom, you want more than just a summer camp; you seek an experience that fosters growth and development, where your child can truly thrive. At Camp Walt Whitman, we’ve created an environment where kids can truly be kids, exploring their passions and discovering hidden talents. We’re not just about activities; we’re about sparking joy and building confidence! This creates an environment that allows children to embrace the simple joys of childhood- laughter with friends, the thrill of new adventures, and the confidence that comes from trying new things. It’s a place where friendships blossom, where the simple pleasures of camp life create lasting memories, and where your child will return home with a newfound sense of adventure and a heart full of joy.

FAQs About This Camp

Why choose Walt Whitman over a camp closer to home?
The warm days and cool nights in New Hampshire’s White Mountains are ideal for summer activities. Your child will comfortably play outdoors in the fresh mountain air and low humidity, which also enhances cabin life, dining, and other indoor activities. In addition, Walt Whitman attracts campers from the Northeast, states across the country (26 states last summer), and Canada so campers meet and become friends with children throughout their region and beyond.
How do you schedule activities- by group or by individual choice?
Campers have four scheduled activity periods with their cabin and two elective periods each day. Group activities combine both instruction and play, enabling campers to have fun while developing skills. For our elective periods, one is chosen daily and one is chosen for an entire week. Our intentionally designed program exposes campers to the full breadth of our activities while also allowing them to focus and specialize in those activities where their passions lie or they want to gain additional instruction.
What is a typical camper like at Walt Whitman?
We are known for attracting down to earth families with really good kids. When we ask people how they heard about us, they will often tell us, “I don’t know, it just seems that the really nice families from our town go to your camp.” We have lots of different types of campers who thrive at Walt Whitman, there’s not one prototypical kid. We have campers who are phenomenal athletes who thrive on our athletic fields and participating in intercamp sports, we have campers who love the outdoors and more than anything look forward to camp outs and their weekly day hike, we have campers who spend as much time as possible participating in the arts, and who just can’t get enough time in the water. The common denominator is that our campers like to try lots of different things and will have fun participating with friends.
