Camp Description

While we take great pride in our 100+ year history of one family owner/directorship, BLC consistently adapts to changes and improves and refines our program. Our Directors, Assistant Directors and many of our “Key Staff” are educators, approaching our camp program from a child development perspective. Our collective experience as educators guides everything we do – from the supervision and guidance of our campers, to our program and structure, to our training of counselors and staff, as well as our approach to instruction. It starts with really knowing each and every one of our campers – from their unique personalities, to what sports they like, whether they are lefty or righty, who their friends are, and a whole lot more.

FAQs About This Camp

My son likes sports but has other interests. Beyond sports what else is there to do?
So long as your son LIKES sports he will love being at Brant Lake Camp. Only 1/3 – 1/2 of your day will be playing ball. MOST of your day will be filled with the the silly, whacky, goofy, & FUN camp activities. We have an excellent and popular drama/theater program as well as the full compliment of art activities (clay, beads, lanyard, tie-die, draw, paint, wood-working, screen printing, and larger art projects etc).

In recent years videography and podcasting have seen a surge in popularity. Some other camp staples are archery, climbing wall &ninja course, fishing, frisbee golf, grilling, ping-pong, nature / hiking, and much more.

Also, our program is filled with classic camp group games like scavenger hunts, sandcastle-building contests, capture the flag, statues with bunk junk, gold-rush, counselor hunt, water fights, campfires, smores, and a whole lot more…

I hear Brant Lake Camp is too competitive. What would you say to that?
We do not believe “competition” is a bad word. Bad competition is bad. At Brant Lake Camp we take pride in being very thoughtful about competition. Our program changes as you get older but we always put an emphasis on sportsmanship.

For example, with our youngest boys we don’t keep track of any scores or standings. Inter-camp games start at age 10 and everyone that wants to play gets to play. Tournaments begin at 11 and, again, anyone who wants to play gets to play.

For our instruction, we do subtly ability group. We want all of our campers to feel challenged but not intimidated or bored.

How does communication with camp work?
There are a few layers to communication with you son. First, we post over 25,000 pictures each summer. Your son will be in a least 2-3 /week (facial recognition makes things easier here). Secondly, your son will write you letters at least 3 times a week (they are incentivized with candy) and you can write or e-mail him daily. We also have 3 phone calls with your son over the course of the summer (none for the first 10 days to make sure adjustment to camp life is smoother).

Parents can also e-mail our Directors and head counselors directly with questions most any day other than the first day and you can expect a response within 24 hours (usually between 10pm-8am: we spend all day with kids!). That said, if we are doing our jobs well we will contact you if anything out of the ordinary comes up.
