Parents are planners by necessity, but even the most organized mom has arrived somewhere only to realize she forgot that one thing she really needs. Being properly prepared can make or break an entire day, and that’s more true during summer than any time.

That’s why we’re sharing our How To Pack For series—practical, real-life packing lists for the places families actually go.

Here are the 8 things we suggest bringing when you go to the amusement park, whether you’re staying local or taking a plane ride to visit Mickey.

Refillable Water Bottles

Save your wallet and the environment; everywhere has water stations these days.

Portable Phone Charger

When you’re wrangling kids at an amusement park, the last thing you want is a dead phone.

Sunscreen

We love sticks that are good for fast swipes in line for rides. Hats and sunglasses are also a must-have.

Cooling Towels Or Fan

Kids love these and they actually work to keep you cool.

Sanitizing Wipes

Sanitizer is great but we love wipes since they don’t spill and there’s no risk of getting gel or spray in kids eyes.

Heatproof Snacks

Chips, beef sticks, nuts, and any other snacks that don’t contain chocolate will keep you going without spending a ton of time and money at concessions.

Thin Sweatshirt

Easy to pack or tie around your waist, you’ll be happy to have in air-conditioned restaurants.

Travel Games

Mini games, sticker books or Magic Ink books can make lines less painful, without pulling out your phone.

Bonus Tip: Always check your amusement park’s website before you go. Some parks have unique extras worth bringing! At LEGOLAND, kids can trade Minifigures with employees throughout the park, and at Disney, you may want autograph books, bubble wands, or park-specific essentials.
