Like all of the moms that make up The Local Moms Network, Nikkie Hancock brings a love for her area, and a passion for helping other mothers, to her role as site curator for our Kingwood Moms site.  (Read previous interviews with our Chicago North Shore Moms, Mendham Moms,South Austin Moms, and Palm Beach Moms!) “We have a lot of Houston mom bloggers but nothing in our specific area, and we have a lot of great things to offer. Being a mom is hard, so if I can help out a mom a little bit by doing the work for her with Kingwood Moms, then my day is made,” says Nikkie. If you’re local, head to her site for amazing resources (she has everything from Mommy and Me classes to the best curbside delivery grocery options) and a chock full calendar (not joking—this area has at least three story times every single day of the week!). And even if you’re not local, head to her Instagram for a real, busy mom’s take on Whole 30/Paleo, including budget-friendly tips. (And if you’re interested, read our interview with the Whole 30 CEO!). Here’s a little more about Nikkie and her local Kingwood favorites.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I have been married for 7 years. I was a teacher for 7 years before turning stay at home mom, now work at home mom. I decided to join The Local Moms Network and bring it to our area because there is nothing like it here! I have a daughter Lola, who is 4 and a son Barrett, who is 2.

I know you cover Kingwood—and do you reach beyond those borders at all?
In addition to Kingwood, I cover Humble and Atascocita, Texas.

For visitors to this part of Houston, what are the must-try restaurants?
Without kids, Chez Nous, and with kids, that’s a hard one! There are so many kid-friendly restaurants here. Tin Roof BBQ is one of our favorites and it has a great playground in the middle of the restaurant.

My kids would love a restaurant with a playground! Where do you recommend family and friends stay in the area?
My house! We don’t really have any special hotels close by, and Southern hospitality says you host in your home….whether you want to or not. 🙂

Love it! What’s your favorite coffee spot locally?
Javaman Coffee & Bistro

And favorite stores?
Dapper Darlings is a cute kids boutique on Lake Houston. My favorite online shops (that are also local to this area) are Jack & Monroe and Her & Reese.

Where do you go to entertain the kids (this is top of mind on a long weekend like this one)?
King Harbor, Town Center, Jumpalooza, Mud Pie, Urban Air and of course, events at the libraries!

Yes, your libraries seem to have a ton of great programs. Are there any other don’t-miss events for visitors?
There are always fun events happening at Town Center and in King Harbor! For instance, there’s a Farmers Market every Thursday at the Town Center.

Our mission is to give moms the gift of time. What are your best time-saving tips/resources as a mom?
I do laundry on Thursday. I clean the kitchen before I go to bed every night. It’s nice to wake up to a clean house. I also make the bed every morning, because sometimes that is the only thing I get accomplished.
